Volunteer Firefighter Scholarship

The Gavin Martin Foundation Volunteer Firefighter Scholarship honors the dedication, sacrifice, and selfless service of volunteer firefighters who commit themselves to protecting their communities. This scholarship reflects Gavin Martin’s deep respect for first responders and his belief in service, teamwork, and hard work. Volunteer firefighters balance demanding responsibilities while answering the call to serve, often with little recognition. This award is intended to support those individuals as they take the next step in their educational and career journey.

The Volunteer Firefighter Scholarship is designed to assist graduating high school seniors and current volunteer firefighters who plan to continue their education at an accredited college, university, or trade school in the upcoming academic year. It recognizes applicants who demonstrate leadership, responsibility, and a strong commitment to their department and community.

Eligibility

Active volunteer firefighter in good standing with a recognized fire department
Graduating high school senior or current student pursuing post-secondary education
Accepted to or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or trade school
Intention to continue serving as a volunteer firefighter, when feasible
Demonstrated commitment to community service and public safety

Requirements

Completed scholarship application
Proof of active volunteer firefighter status, such as a letter from a fire chief or department officer
Proof of acceptance or enrollment at an accredited college, university, or trade school
Personal statement describing firefighting experience, community involvement, and educational goals
At least one letter of recommendation from a fire department officer, teacher, or community leader
